About
Hollyhock Retreat Centre stands as one of Canada's most iconic and beloved retreat destinations, a place where transformative education meets breathtaking natural beauty on the remote and unspoiled Cortes Island. Since 1982, Hollyhock has been a catalyst for personal growth, creative exploration, and deep yoga and meditation practice.
The centre occupies a stunning oceanfront property on the eastern shore of Cortes Island, accessible by a scenic journey involving ferry crossings and a water taxi from Campbell River. This deliberate remoteness is part of Hollyhock's magic — the journey itself becomes a transition from ordinary life into a space of openness and possibility.
Yoga programming at Hollyhock attracts world-renowned teachers from across North America and beyond. Seasonal retreat offerings span a rich variety of styles and approaches, from vigorous Vinyasa and Ashtanga intensives to deeply restorative Yin and meditation retreats. Many programs integrate yoga with complementary practices such as mindfulness, creative arts, wilderness immersion, and personal development work.
The physical setting is extraordinary. Guests wake to the sound of waves and birdsong, practice in light-filled studios overlooking the ocean, and spend free time exploring pristine beaches, old-growth forest trails, and kayaking in sheltered coves. The wood-fired sauna and outdoor hot tub offer post-practice relaxation with ocean views.
Accommodation ranges from shared cabins to private waterfront rooms, all designed to balance comfort with connection to the natural environment. The kitchen team serves three exceptional meals daily using organic produce from Hollyhock's own gardens and local farms, with menus that celebrate West Coast bounty while accommodating diverse dietary needs.
Beyond the scheduled programming, Hollyhock's greatest gift may be the community that forms among guests. Shared meals, evening gatherings, and the intimate scale of the centre create connections that often last well beyond the retreat. Many guests return year after year, drawn back by the particular alchemy of learning, nature, and community that defines the Hollyhock experience.
Retreats typically run from May through October, with programs ranging from weekend workshops to week-long immersions. Early booking is recommended as popular programs fill quickly.
