About
Galiano Oceanfront Inn Yoga Retreat offers a uniquely Gulf Island experience, blending the restorative power of yoga practice with the gentle pace, natural beauty, and exceptional food culture of Galiano Island. Located directly on the waterfront at Sturdies Bay, the inn provides a retreat setting where the rhythm of the tides becomes a natural backdrop for practice and contemplation.
Galiano Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands, nestled between Vancouver Island and the mainland. Accessible by BC Ferries from Tsawwassen, the island is known for its spectacular hiking trails, pristine beaches, artist studios, and a food and wine culture that punches far above its weight for such a small community. This cultural and natural richness infuses every aspect of the retreat experience.
Yoga practice takes place in the inn's waterfront studio, a light-filled space with large windows framing views of Active Pass — one of the most dramatic waterways in the Gulf Islands, where ferries, eagles, and occasionally whales pass within view. When weather permits, sessions move to the seaside deck for open-air practice with salt air and ocean sounds.
Retreat programs are thoughtfully paced, balancing structured practice with ample free time for island exploration. A typical day includes morning yoga and meditation, a leisurely breakfast featuring local eggs, baked goods, and fresh fruit, a guided nature walk or kayaking excursion, afternoon restorative practice, and a multi-course dinner showcasing the best of Galiano's food producers.
The culinary component deserves special mention. Galiano Island is home to organic farms, a vineyard, artisan food producers, and a Saturday market that draws visitors from across the Gulf Islands. Retreat meals take full advantage of this bounty, with menus featuring local seafood, farm vegetables, island cheeses, and house-baked breads.
Guided island walks introduce participants to Galiano's remarkable landscapes. Bluffs Park offers spectacular cliff-top views over Active Pass. Bodega Ridge provides 360-degree panoramas of the surrounding islands and mountains. The island's beaches and forests offer quieter settings for solo contemplation.
Retreats run on select weekends from April through October, typically beginning Friday afternoon and concluding Sunday evening. The intimate inn setting accommodates 12-15 retreat guests, ensuring personal attention and a connected group experience.
